THE GOAL: WITH FLEXIBILITY AND SYSTEM ALL
SERVING SALES CHANNELS OPTIMALLY
Stores, outlets, online retailers and webshop customers: The distribution channels of bugatti Retail GmbH are versatile and logistically demanding. To meet the growing demands of eCommerce, the company decided in 2017 to expand the existing hanging goods warehouse in Goslar into a multifunctional central warehouse.
In addition to the Bugatti full range, the expanded central warehouse was also to handle logistics for four other brands in the group: Wilvorst, Corpus Line, Atelier Torino and Tziacco. Different delivery sizes from single items to fully loaded trucks with new goods had to be handled, including highly varying planning horizons.
In addition, it was important to quickly process returns from eCommerce customers, prepare the goods and relabel them – depending on the batch size, within one day until goods issue. The demands on organization, overview and rapid processing of orders were correspondingly high.
USE OF THE EXISTING
BUILDING STRUCTURE
The existing transport and storage system proved to be a key challenge. It was too inflexible for rebuilding and would have required costly new construction. In search of a solution, bugatti approached the system supplier Schönenberger. He found the existing building structure to be good and sufficient to fully realize the desired reorganization of the processes with his Omniflo system – and even to use the existing scaffolding structure for this purpose. Bruno Weis, logistics manager at the Goslar site: “Schönenberger’s proposal was so convincing that we immediately dropped our new building plans. Because the Omniflo modular system could be fully integrated into the existing environment and designed according to our ideas.”

INTELLIGENT REORGANIZATION
OF WORKPLACES AND STORAGE
How does a pure hanging warehouse with only one processing level and four storage levels become a multifunctional logistics center? Schönenberger’s solution was: mobile workstations on all four warehouse levels, each the size of a soccer field, customer-neutral stock levels and a system that integrates all functional areas. For the intelligent flow of goods, Schönenberger proposed a sufficiently large buffer area in the goods receiving area, which allows flexible processing of deliveries according to urgency. For this purpose, the goods receiving area was enlarged to the size of half a soccer field. And finally, the systems specialist acted as general contractor to design ergonomic workstations in the goods receiving and packing areas.
CONVERSION DURING OPERATION
In October 2017, the Schönenberger installation team started with
the reconstruction on the top floor. While operations continued as normal on the levels below, the floor was
cleared and the new system mounted. This is how the team worked
down through the four storage levels.
Then came the second floor with ironing, returns workstations,
tunnel finisher and finally the first level with the functional areas of incoming/outgoing goods, quality control and packing.
The old conveyors were left until last and in a final,
replaced by the new ones in a week-long tour de force. In May 2018, the
Conversion completed and multifunctional logistics center completed. “The collaboration and communication
have worked very well,” recalls Bruno Weis. “The Schönenberger team was competent and implemented change requests
immediately during assembly.”

EFFICIENT WORK THANKS TO FLEXIBLE
ORGANIZATION AND EASY HANDLING
Since the conversion, employees have been working at mobile workstations on the four warehouse levels of the new logistics center.
The work areas are well lit and generously sized.
On the storage lines, trolley baskets are used for lying goods, long trolleys for hanging goods. They are easy to combine, interchangeable and so smooth-running that they can be used by

with inclined conveyors. The integration of the ironer and tunnel finisher now also enables the reprocessing of returned
garments quickly and efficiently. The fact that the new plant also
is much quieter, the employees consider this a big plus
